You are invited to the opening of Shadow Site's second site at a nearby storage site this Friday 6 May at 5pm.
shadow sites (curated by Frances Wilkinson and Samantha McCulloch) examines what happens to artworks when they are hidden from view, resting in storage vaults and archives. For Next Wave Festival 2016 a storage facility is transformed to an active site for viewing and experiencing contemporary art, presenting new work by Léuli Eshraghi (SAM/IRN/VIC), Catherine Evans (VIC), Grace Herbert (TAS), Sophie Neate (VIC), James Tylor (Te Arawa/Kaurna/SA), Rudi Williams (ITA/VIC) and Elmedin Žunić (BIH/NOR/VIC).
The exhibition accompanies shadow sites (first site) currently showing at Centre for Contemporary Photography. Artistic director of Next Wave Festival Georgie Meagher and Cr Roberto Colanzi, Mayor of the City of Yarra will be opening the event.
On Saturday 7 May at 11am there will be a free walking tour of both exhibition sites with the curators and six of the artists. Please note the tour will be Auslan interpreted. Further information is available here.

A new print from the series Memory Muscle will be installed each week during the exhibition Shadow Sites, resulting in an accumulative work that shows each print fading over time. Memory Muscle examines the recent repatriation of Indigenous human remains from the Berlin Museum of Medical History back to Australia, over a century after they were removed. Their meaning is in constant flux: in museums they exist as scientific objects to be scrutinised, while for living communities these remains can be representative of past atrocities that are often excluded from mainstream narratives. By choosing to use unfixed photographic paper, Evans creates an image that never rests. Exhibited at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, Australia, until May 22nd for NEXT WAVE Festival 2016.

I'm excited to announce that I'll be presenting work as part of Shadow Sites, curated by Frances Wilkinson and Samantha McCulloch, as part of NEXT WAVE. The exhibition will be held across two venues; I'll be presenting my photographic work, Memory Muscle, at the Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP), and a site specific installation at a near by storage site.
The opening at CCP is Thursday 31st March, 6-8pm, followed by free artist and curator talks at 12pm, Saturday 2nd April. See below for additional public programs at the storage site.

The Scenic Route #1 – Touch
The Scenic Route is our series of self-initiated publications. This first number is about TOUCH and limited to 300 copies. Each issue investigates a specific topic we find engaging and is close to our areas of focus: contemporary art and cultural exchange. We produce new material and ask friends and acquaintances to participate, resulting in a variety of ways to consider the topic. The Scenic Route is an extension of our activity in book design and a new way of working as authors, editors and producers.
Happy to receive a copy of the Unintended (Refrains:) exhibition catalogue (held at the George Paton Gallery, Melbourne, 16-25 September 2015). The catalogue collates 16 artist interviews with curator, Sandra Bridie, in an attempt to find those motifs that keep recurring in their creative practice.
